The Jazz Corner: March 13, 1995

March 9, 2016 – 12:21 am

During the second half of my freshman year at Mary Washington, I started a show called The Jazz Corner. It aired from 6-8pm. This episode comes from midway through that semester and features my girlfriend (now wife) in the studio as well as a friend named Ronnie.

I was still in the early stages of learning about jazz at that point, so things are kind of all over the place. If I were to do a jazz show now, it would be quite different, but I still enjoyed listening to this one again after 21 years.

It was interesting to see that I had already discovered what became the song that really led me down the jazz rabbit hole: Archie Shepp’s “Le Matin Des Noires,” which blew my mind from the first time I heard it (and still does).

Playlist after the jump.
