It’s hard to believe it’s been a year (and two days) since Tony D died. Revisit the Remembering Tony D category and throw on a copy of Droppin’ Funky Verse.

I realize last week’s “rare hip-hop week” was only two posts, and that’s kind of weak. I had a third post ready for Friday, but I decided to hold off and contact one of the artists to see if he minded me posting the album. If I haven’t heard back in a few more days, I’ll go ahead and post it.

In the meantime, I have a punk demo tape from the mid-80s coming up soon, too.

Rare Hip-Hop Week begins tomorrow

I’ve decided the best way to come back after a long break is to come back strong. So, starting tomorrow will be three posts in three days featuring some super-rare hip-hop. I’ve never seen this stuff pop up on any music blog (though I certainly could have missed it), so hang tight for some good ish.

Howdy there!

So over on my personal blog, I started posting some tape rips of old cassettes I had sitting in the basement. I decided to move them all over to their own blog because, you know, I need another blog to maintain. I think I say that every time I start a new site.

Anyway, the focus of Normal Bias will be radio shows from the 1990s (and maybe earlier), demos, and out-of-print rarities that I have on cassette and want to archive before the tapes succumb to the sands of time. A lot of the music will be hip-hop, but there will be a healthy dose of international music, weird demos, and other such goodness.

Each side of a cassette will be ripped to a single MP3 (actually to FLAC and then converted to MP3). There’s no chance I’ll have time to split each side into individual songs or draw up a cue sheet or anything like. Feel free to do it yourself, or just enjoy the damn music as it is.

The first few posts will appear shortly and will be rehashes of the few posts I’ve already written on my personal blog. New posts will commence shortly after that.
