Wall-to-Wall Sound and Video & Listening Booth In-Store Promo Tape: June 1989

October 3, 2017 – 11:59 am

Wall-to-Wall Sound and Video and its sister store Listening Booth operated in the mid-Atlantic States as music and electronic stores in the 1980s. Wall-to-Wall had a particularly great logo. Wall-to-Wall filed for their trademark in 1981 and filed for bankruptcy in July 1990.

This tape is in the Flush collection because during his college years, Greg worked in a Wall-to-Wall Sound and Video at the mall in Pleasantville, NJ, a town on the Jersey shore not far from Atlantic City.

While most of this collection involves radio tapes of hip-hop or house music, this is an interesting one to start off with because it’s a little different from the rest. There’s something terribly charming about the overly enunciated style of the announcer discussing the new album from Kool Moe Dee, “a platinum rap star known for such hits as ‘Wild, Wild West’ and ‘Go See the Doctor.'”
